November Social Media Marketing Ideas

This is my blog on November Social Media ideas from my BeYourOwnGraphicDesigner website but, of course, it is very relevant to my followers here too!

“Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.”

17th Century English Nursery Rhyme.

This is a typically British occasion where we celebrate the Gunpowder Plot which took place on 5 November 1605.

A group of English Catholics wanted to restore a Catholic monarch to the English throne, however, they failed to blow up the House of Lords that day.  Guy Fawkes was caught guarding the gunpowder under the building and was executed for his part. As a result, he has become synonymous with the Gunpowder Plot.

Since then Brits gather in parks and gardens to watch dummies, known as ‘Guys’, burn on bonfires and fireworks light up the sky, wrapped up in woolly hats, scarves and gloves!

November Interesting Facts

I absolutely love this section of our Social Media Planners as I always discover such interesting facts. Some November trivia for you:

Bullet PointAlthough the word November dates back to Old English, the first known use of Novemberish was by Robert Burns in 1793.

Bullet PointNovember was the ninth month of the ancient Roman calendar and has retained its name from the Latin “novem“ meaning “nine.”

Bullet PointNovember is the only month used to represent a letter in the phonetic alphabet.

Bullet PointAccording to research published in 2008, serial killers are more likely to be born in November than any other month. (How bizarre is that!)

Bullet PointThe 17th-century astrologer Richard Saunders wrote that: “In this Moneth [November], Melancholy much increaseth.“ He recommended eating eggs and honey and vomiting sometimes.

November monthly events

12 November Monthly Events

November is also known as Movember in many countries around the world. This is a fantastic movement run by The Movember Foundation, the leading charity changing the face of men’s health. They’re addressing some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. It’s a great cause to support and not just limited to MoBros as there are MoSistas too. So, if you want to find out how you can get involved go to https://www.movember.com/.

In every Planner, we add lots of different Monthly Holidays to help you find a theme that will suit your business. There are two pages of these in our November Planner and here are my favourites:

Aviation History Month
COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) Awareness Month
Diabetes Awareness Month
Epilepsy Awareness Month
Inspirational Role Models Month
Lung Cancer Awareness Month
National Gratitude Month
National Pepper Month
Novel Writing Month
Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month
Spinach and Squash Month
Veg Pledge

Take the Veg Pledge

You can always challenge yourself to go vegetarian or vegan for the month of November to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Not only will you learn some delicious new recipes but you’ll also be helping fund their life-saving research to beat cancer sooner.

However, if you want to find out more click this link and they’ll send you all the fundraising ideas, recipes and top tips you’ll need to help you through the month.

Many of these events are linked to charities so you can choose one charity to support for the month.
